Does chlorine in swimming pools bleach your skin?

Someone posed an interesting question to me. Could the bleach in a swimming pool bleach your skin? My initial reaction is ‘no’, but why, or why not?

I don’t think it could, but it could irritate your skin, dry it out and make it all scratchy. Some people have allergic reactions to chlorine. If anything, the chlorine would affect your hair ala’ Joker-green-streaks, you know?

  2. The concentration of chlorine in swimming pools is not enough to alter the melanin concentration in your skin.

  3. Chlorine in swimming pools won’t bleach your skin. They’ll actually darken and dry your skin if you stay in the water for too long.

If you have naturally blond hair ( though I’m not sure if this applies to bleached hair), you could get green streaks if you stay in too long.
